A Case for the Countryside is a key stage 3 resource that helps to "Bring the Countryside into the Classroom". It is organised into five subject areas- Cross Curricular; Design and Technology; Geography; Mathematics and Science.
Each subject area is divided into Teachers' Notes and, where applicable, corresponding Student Sheets. The Teachers' Notes give clear guidance on how each activity may be conducted, including to links with the National Curriculum and opportunities for further study. All documents can be downloaded in either word or pdf format.
'The Case for the Countryside' has used five locations in different parts of Great Britain, each very different and illustrating a variety of aspects of land management. Responding to the different culture of the secondary school, units have been developed for a number of subject areas - mathematics, design and technology, science and geography. In addition two cross-curricular units provide an opportunity and vehicle for personal and social development. One is designed to bridge that transition from primary to secondary, the other for use at the end of Key Stage 3, to encourage pupils to apply knowledge gained over the previous three years, develop their personal skills and make connections between subject areas. The pack itself has been written by a group of professionals from schools, education advisers and the countryside, which should ensure both its technical accuracy and relevance in the classroom. It has been written with the requirements of the national curriculum firmly in mind.
Promote an understanding of the countryside as a living, working environment, and of the issues facing those responsible for its management.
