How does the weather affect the lives of
the
people of Lychford?
Work in groups, pairs or as a class:
Use the photographs and the video to discuss the effects of extreme weather conditions in Lychford. For example:
- What effect would heavy rainfall have in the village?
- What effect might it have on the farms?
- What might be the consequences of heavy rain during the harvest?
- What might be the consequences of deep snow on the area?
- What do you think are the most favourable weather conditions for farmers in Lychford?
- How does the weather affect your own life?
Use the photographs provided to
produce a newspaper
story
For this activity children can work on their own, in groups or in pairs. How far you extend this activity will depend upon the enthusiasm of the children and resources available in your school.Ultimately, the children could produce their own newspaper for the village, using information about the lives of the inhabitants from the audio and video cassettes. Contained within the audio and video tapes are many details of issues of concern and interest to the villagers and different events held within the village.
